The Space Between

Not the space between people.

Not the space between stars.

The space between one thought ending and another beginning.

The moment before a bird decides to take flight.

The pause after a wave reaches the shore but before it returns to the sea.

The instant when a seed is no longer simply a seed, yet not quite a sprout.

Everything meaningful passes through these unnoticed thresholds.

Nature does not hurry through them.

Neither does light.

A sunrise never leaps into day.
It unfolds.

Water does not question where gravity will lead.
It simply continues.

Perhaps peace is not something we find.

Perhaps it is something that has always existed in the spaces we rush past.

The quiet interval where judgment has not yet formed.
Where possibility has not yet narrowed.
Where life remains wonderfully open.

Every culture has stood within these moments.
Every child knows them before language.
Every elder recognizes them after experience.

The universe does not move from beginning to end.

It moves from one becoming to another.

And in between—

there is enough room for wonder,
for forgiveness,
for discovery,
and for a quieter way of seeing.

Not empty.

Alive with everything that is about to become.
