Returning Differently

We return, but never exactly as we were.

The place may remain familiar,
the tree may hold the same ground,
the water may follow an ancient course,
yet something within us has shifted.

What once appeared as drifting
may reveal itself as direction.
What felt like a bend in the way
may have been the way guiding us all along.

Returning differently is not repeating the past.
It is meeting what remains
with everything the journey has quietly gathered.

We carry discoveries we can name
and others that simply changed the way we see.
Strength becomes less about standing against the current
and more about knowing when to move with it.

And when we return together,
each of us arrives by a different path.
Six people may stand beneath the same ancient tree
and discover six different meanings within its shade.

No one needs to surrender their own perspective
for something greater to emerge between them.

This is how awareness expands—
not by abandoning what has been,
but by allowing it to become something more.

We remain.
We sustain.
We gain.

And when life brings us around again,
we recognize the familiar without being confined by it.

We move forward by returning differently.
